Canceling your subscription

Modified on Tue, 8 Sep at 6:29 AM

How you cancel depends on where you subscribed, because that determines who takes the payment. There are only two cases:

Where you subscribed Who bills you Where you cancel
The AltIndex mobile app (iOS/Android) Apple or Google Your store subscription settings
The website (app.altindex.com) Stripe (directly us) The Stripe customer portal

Not sure which you are? Check the receipt email for your first payment — it came from either Apple/Google or Stripe. Or open Settings → Billing & Subscription on the web: if you see a Manage billing button, you are billed through Stripe. If you subscribed in the app, that button will not appear on the web.

If you subscribed in the mobile app (iOS or Android)

Mobile subscriptions are billed through the App Store (Apple) or Google Play. By Apple and Google policy these can only be canceled from your own store account settings — we are not able to cancel an in-app subscription on your behalf. This is true of every app on both stores, not just ours.

From inside the app: Profile → Billing → Manage subscription. This opens the store-managed subscription center, where you can change plan, update your payment method, restore a purchase, or cancel.

Directly in your store settings:

  • iPhone / iPad: Settings → tap your name at the top → Subscriptions → AltIndex → Cancel Subscription.
  • Android: Play Store → profile icon → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → AltIndex → Cancel subscription.

If AltIndex is not listed in your store subscriptions, you are almost certainly signed in to a different Apple ID or Google account than the one that bought it. Subscriptions live with the store account that paid, not with your AltIndex login. Switch store accounts and look again.

Your plan stays active until the end of the current billing period, then your account automatically returns to Free.

If you subscribed on the web (app.altindex.com)

Web subscriptions are billed through Stripe.

  1. Go to Settings → Billing & Subscription.
  2. Click Manage billing. This opens the Stripe customer portal.
  3. In the portal you can cancel your subscription, update your payment method, and download past invoices.

Your plan stays active until the end of the current period. Stripe will email you a confirmation when the cancellation is scheduled.

If Manage billing reports that there is no active subscription, your paid access is coming from a mobile purchase rather than from Stripe — cancel it in your store settings instead (see above).

If you are on a free trial

Canceling during a trial is the same process. You keep access until the trial's end date and are not charged, as long as you cancel before the trial ends.

On mobile, Profile → Billing shows a Free trial badge and the exact date the trial converts.

How to confirm the cancellation worked

Don't assume it went through — check:

  • Mobile: Profile → Billing switches from "Renews on" to "Expires on", with a note that the subscription is set to end on that date. If it still says "Renews on," the cancellation did not register.
  • Web: the Stripe portal shows the subscription as canceling at the end of the period.
  • Either way, you should have a confirmation email from Apple, Google, or Stripe.

Until that end date you keep everything you paid for — canceling does not cut access off early, so there is no reason to wait until the last day.

What happens when a subscription ends

  • Your account automatically downgrades to Free — no action needed from you or from us.
  • Any API keys are automatically revoked when the downgrade is processed (API access is Pro-only — see API key access).
  • Your portfolio data, watchlist, and history are retained. Paid features simply lock. Nothing is deleted, and resubscribing restores access to it.

Canceling is not the same as deleting your account

These are two separate actions, and doing one does not do the other:

  • Deleting your account does not cancel your subscription. If you delete your account while a subscription is active, Apple, Google, or Stripe will keep charging you. Cancel first, then delete.
  • Canceling your subscription does not delete your account. Your data stays and your account drops to Free.

The delete flow warns you about this and links to the right cancel surface, but the order matters: cancel, confirm it, then delete.

Refunds

  • App Store / Google Play purchases: refunds are handled by Apple or Google directly, under their own refund policies — we cannot issue or approve them. Apple: reportaproblem.apple.com. Google: request it from your Play Store order history.
  • Web (Stripe) charges: contact support and a person will review it.

Refund and billing-dispute requests always go to a human. Please include the email on your AltIndex account and the receipt for the charge.
